I’m A Celeb’s Dec slams harsh fans as they ridicule stars crying over home letters

Declan Donnelly defended the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmates after they were criticised by "harsh" fans for crying over their letters from home.

Monday night's instalment of the popular ITV series saw the likes of David Ginola and Danny Miller breaking down into tears as they received some much-needed support from their loved-ones at home.

But not everyone related to the celebrities' emotions as they took to Twitter to poke fun at them.

One viewer, in particular, tweeted: "I'll never understand the drama over letters from home on TV shows. I've ignored texts longer than they are in the jungle! #ImACeleb."

The tweet caught the attention of Dec, who re-shared it to the 6.7million followers on his joint account with co-host Ant McPartlin.

He wrote in response: "I think the people saying this are a bit harsh and probably don't have small children!

"Bearing in mind they isolated for 2 weeks before the series they've now been away from family, camping with strangers and starved for a full month! D."

Despite Ant sticking up for the stars, others continued to poke fun at them for sobbing.

One person wrote: "Everybody crying over letters. Why? Your all going home soon anyway.#ImACeleb #ImACelebrity."

Another added: "Anyone else find the whole letters from home thing really boring and annoying? They've been away and couple of weeks and will see their families again in a matter of days."

A third said: "The carry on over these letters from home is embarrassing. You've been in Wales for 2 weeks not the trenches for 2 years #ImACelebrity."

However, not everyone found the letter segment of the show laughable, with others admitting it made them emotional too.

One person said: "I swear I cry every year when they get their letters from home #ImACeleb."

A second added: "The letters definitely get me emotional every year #imacelebrity."

Tears were shed on Monday night's episode as football legend David Gas tasked with reading out former Emmerdale star Danny's letter from his fiancée, Steph Jones, who gave birth to their son Arthur just a month before the show began.

As David, 54, read out the letter, he was visibly emotional as tears were seen falling down David's face.

After reading the letter, the former professional footballer walked away from the group in tears, with soap star Danny quickly following behind to give him a warm hug.
