Season 24 of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit has undergone some major changes for NBC’s staple crime drama following the sad departure of Amanda Rollins (played by Kelli Giddish) last year. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was recently introduced to plainclothes officer Tonie Churlish (Jasmine Batchelor), who’s about to put herself in danger to take down a serial abuser.

A new promo has teased Churlish getting kidnapped after going undercover to uncover the team’s latest target.

In the 17th episode of season 24, Lime Chaser, Benson and her detectives are after a man who has been stalking women in bars.

The synopsis reads: “The search for a suspect who drugs women’s drinks in crowded bars leads the SVU to Muncy’s brother.

“Churlish makes a risky move to impress Benson,” it concludes.

After making her SVU debut just a few weeks ago, Churlish is already making herself known by taking on some of the NYPD’s most high-profile cases.

However, as she’s not nearly as established as other, more iconic members of the team, she could become one of the new season’s casualties if her target gets the upper-hand.

A new teaser trailer for the episode coming up at the end of the month has also shown viewers what to expect when Churlish throws herself headfirst into the case.

Once their next case is established, Churlish tells Benson: “I want to go undercover.”

Her boss is clearly unsure if the relatively inexperienced officer is fit for the job, and responds: “I need to know you can do this.”

“I can handle myself,” Churlish insists, before the plan takes a nosedive.

The trailer then reveals the officer suffers the same fate as the victims after sipping from a spiked drink.

She stumbles out of a bathroom cubicle while her colleagues take to the streets in the hope of tracking her down.

The end of the trailer shows Churlish laying face down, potentially on the floor of a van as she asks: “Where are you taking me?”

Newcomer Batchelor’s time on the series could be counting down just a few weeks after joining the SVU team.

If Benson and the team aren’t able to catch up with her, Churlish could even be killed to throw the detectives off the culprit’s scent.

At the very least, the undercover officer will be deeply traumatised by the event and may have to take a step back from upcoming cases.

Thankfully, nothing has been said regarding Batchelor’s exit from the show just yet.

Although she struggles to fit in at the Bronx precinct, it hasn’t taken long for Benson to warm up to the diligent detective, and she could soon become a permanent member of the team.

However, she clearly still has a lot to learn, and getting drugged and kidnapped could be a wake-up call to ensure Churlish has her head screwed on tight when the next high-stakes case comes along.

Law and Order: SVU season 24 continues Thursdays on NBC in the USA.
