Manifest season three originally aired on NBC back in April 2021 and the series was cancelled shortly after. For viewers in the UK, they were worried that the show’s final instalment would not make it across the pond. Thankfully, Sky One is now airing the final season and Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what happened.
What happened in the Manifest season 3 finale?
The popular supernatural drama was renewed for a third season in June 2020 and fans waited almost a year for it to air.
Much to their disappointment, NBC decided to cancel the series following the season three release.
The show was expected to include six seasons, meaning many questions were left unanswered at the end of the latest outing.
Season three was made up of 13 episodes, and they have just started airing on Sky One in the UK.
Many questions have been raised as to how the final season wraps things up, considering more seasons had been planned.
The finale saw Michaela Stone (played by Melissa Roxburgh) rescue an airline passenger called Angelina (Holly Taylor) who had been kept inside her house by her parents.
Angelina ended up falling in with the wrong crowd and was led to believe Ben Stone (Josh Dallas) was responsible for the impending apocalypse.
She ended up kidnapping Ben and Grace’s (Athena Karkanis) daughter Eden, believing Eden was her guardian angel.
In a shocking moment, Angelina killed Grace and ran away with her baby. Grace’s death marked one of the biggest developments of the season.
Jeff Rake, who created the series, said he had always prepared for Grace to die when she did.
If the show was to be picked up for another season, the impact of Grace’s death would be explored.
The other major plot point in the season finale was the disappearance of Ben’s son, Cal (Jack Messina).
Cal vanished after touching the plane’s tailfin and when Ben returned the wreckage into the sea, Cal reappeared.
However, when he returned to the present-day world, he was an adult rather than a young boy.
This indicates the plane crash has something to do with time travel and a divine plan that meant the plane was destined to crash.
There are many religious connotations in the series, one of which being that Ben is the Noah of today.
The passengers on board the plane somehow became prophets who all have premonitions they cannot explain.
Sadly, as the series is yet to be saved, fans may never know what really happened to the plane during a moment of turbulence.
Fans have taken to Reddit to raise many questions, with one saying: “Just finished season 3 and the series I guess, and I have so many questions.
“Why did Angelina kill Grace. How is Cal his real age. Adrian was crying to Angelina but he still let the calling happen.
“He knew it was about Angelina, why didn’t he do anything? I knew Daly would come back but what was that?
“Basically I can’t survive with that being the end.” [Sic] Sadly many fans feel the same way about the abrupt ending.
Another fan responded: “The only answer I think I know is that Angelina killed Grace so she could take the baby. That’s what I think anyways!” [Sic]
Rake is determined to give fans the ending they desperately crave and he has promised the story will wrap up one way or another.
He has been exploring the idea of a two-hour film to address all the unanswered questions from the third season.
Manifest is available to watch on Netflix and Sky One.
