Maya Jama sends Love Island’s Aftersun ratings soaring after wowing fans in tiny outfit | The Sun

MORE viewers tuned in to Love Island’s spin-off show than they did the main show thanks to sizzling new host Maya Jama.

Early ratings indicate that Sunday night’s episode of the ITV2 dating show was watched by a peak of 1.51million, whereas 1.82million tuned in to see the Bristol-born presenter’s debut on Aftersun.

It’s further proof that Love Island’s new addition remains the biggest draw for fans.

A TV source said: “Spin-off shows are certainly not meant to be the main event.

“They sit alongside the main show to make use of extra footage, steer narrative or ramp up noise around a programme.

“So no one ever expects the sister show to exceed the main show in figures. Maya is proving to be the shot in the arm Love Island really needs right now.”

Viewing figures for the main show last week slumped below one million for the first time in seven years, with just 918,000 tuning in to watch Thursday’s episode against 4.23m for BBC One’s The Apprentice.

The format of Maya’s Aftersun was much the same as under previous host Laura Whitmore, 35.

Figures for the magazine-style show had dropped as low as 691,200 on June 19, 2022.

Maya – wearing a hot pink, cut out dress – welcomed a panel made up of Radio One Dj Jordan North, reality star Sam Thompson and ex Love Islander Indiyah Polack.
