Miley Cyrus makes Black Mirror debut as Netflix FINALLY confirms season 5 release date
At the end of December last year, Netflix released the interactive movie Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
It got mixed reviews – some loving the many endings and others begging for the return of the regular series.
And now, Netflix have released the trailer for season five and confirmed it will be available from June 5.
The upcoming season will be comprised of three episodes, just like the first and second seasons released in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
As of yet, not much is known about the episodes, other than the fact they will take a look at technology and how it interacts with modern life.
The trailer also sees US pop sensation Miley Cyrus make her highly-anticipated debut in the Netflix smash hit.
It seems she will appear in an episode focussed on a young girl and her attachment to a robot doll.
As the robot urges a girl (Angourie Rice) to knock her 20,000 fans dead, it seems the episode could follow themes explored in season three’s Nosedive.
It’s reported that one of the episodes will be called Smithereens, which features Fleabag’s Andrew Scott.
He can be seen in a car, surrounded by police and people recording on their phones, while holding a gun.
The episode title was previously seen in Bandersnatch, and was linked to Russian bots which may explain why Andrew Scott’s character looks so on edge.
The third episode, Striking Vipers, looks to include a swiping-led app like Tinder, in which Avengers: Endgame star Anthony Mackie flicks through women’s photos.
There’s also a clip of a fighting-style video game, which is likely to be from the same episode given its reported title.
The fifth season was pushed back due to the complex nature of Bandersnatch, though it was confirmed to be in production last March.
Black Mirror season five will be released on Netflix on June 5.
