There has now been a lot of speculation over who will be joining Sally Nugent on-screen and the bookies say the odds are in the favour of journalist Jon Kay.

The 52-year-old has worked on BBC Breakfast since 2010 and often fills in for its main hosts.

Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Apati told the Star: “It’s looking increasingly likely that BBC chiefs have found Dan Walker’s replacement.

“And he’s no stranger to the Breakfast family, with Jon Kay pulling away from the chasing pack."

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
