After her groundbreaking debut as Agent Jane Tennant on CBS’s hit NCIS spin-off, NCIS: Hawaii, actress Vanessa Lachey, 40, recently teased her huge new project in a move away from the screens. The actress, who has also worked as a TV host, excitedly announced the release of her debut book on social media.

Vanessa took to Instagram to share a snap which announced the upcoming release of her new book.

The caption read: “It’s officially NOVEMBER, my favourite month!!! It’s mine & Nick’s Birthday on the 9th & Thanksgiving week started our VERY 1st tradition as a couple 15 years ago!”

She explained: “TODAY is #NationalAuthorsDay! Which is perfect since my book about ‘Family & Traditions’ comes out Nov 30th!”

Before thanking the publishers and her ghost writer, Vanessa added: “I am so excited for you all to get it and I am still in awe to call myself an author, it’s never too late to do what you love!”

Vanessa’s debut as Janet Tennant was a trailblazing move for the franchise as it made her the first woman in NCIS’ history to play a lead role.

As the first woman to be named the Special Agent in charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor, Jane’s storyline highlighted what it was like to work in a male-dominated industry.

When her role was confirmed, Vanessa took to social media to announce it and wrote: “Honored is an understatement! To join the NCIS franchise as the first female lead and to do it on the Beautiful Islands of Hawaii.”
It continued: “I still can’t believe it! Thank You, CBS for believing in me! Now let’s get to work!”

As well as being an actress, TV host, wife and mother, Vanessa will add the title of author to her accolades.

Aside from winning Miss Teen USA in the ‘90s, Vanessa is well known for hosting Netflix’s hit dating show Love Is Blind alongside her husband Nick Lachey.

Speaking to People.com, Vanessa opened up about her debut book and revealed Life From Scratch would be a collection of season-by-season recipes, holiday hacks, birthday rituals, and date night ideas.

She explained: “The book is broken up into the seasons, and in every season there’s moments that you can create and make your own.”

Vanessa shared: “It’s what we’ve done in the Lachey household, but I just hope it inspires people to create their own memories and traditions with their family or chosen family.”

The actress had been working on the book during the last two years, throughout the pandemic and while filming for NCIS Hawaii.

“At the end of the day, I found the silver lining that I got to spend that much more time with my kids and get to know them even more,” she said.

After labelling her book her “fourth baby”, she also opened up about the future of her book: “I get excited about having this for my family, and then when they come over when they’re older, having it for their babies, and so on.“

Life From Scratch officially debuts on November 16 and is available to pre-order now.

NCIS: Hawaii continues Monday on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
