Nicole Kidman says she could ditch Hollywood for Belfast after filming new movie The Northman there
SHE has homes in sunny Australia and America but Hollywood A-lister Nicole Kidman says she could pack that all in for Belfast.
The Aussie actress fell in love with the Northern Ireland capital while filming new movie The Northman there with Bjork and Ethan Hawke.
She said: “I love it. I was filming and I was saying, ‘Maybe we should move here’. I am that person. There is something about it. I was just drawn. I have Irish blood. My family came to New Zealand in 1831 on the SS Susan.”
Talking about The Northman on the Marc Maron podcast, she added: “The movie is very weird. “I said I was terrified to come to Ireland and do it as it is a pandemic.
“I am grateful to be doing the work. I didn’t want to let down a huge production and we did it with safety and the film is finished and I am moving to Belfast.”
The thriller, set in tenth century Iceland, stars Alexander Skarsgard as a Nordic prince seeking revenge after his father is murdered.
Last year Nicole and her country singer husband Keith Urban stayed in a £28k-a-week eco-friendly mansion in Australia’s Byron Bay.
She also has homes in Sydney, New York, Los Angeles and Nashville. Get ready for a culture shock, Nicole.
WEIGHT & SEA, JASON
WHILE Jena Frumes was enjoying her Jamaican beach, boyfriend Jason Derulo was asking Instagram: “How much weight is acceptable to gain on vacation?”
I wish that was me after weight gain.
OLIVIA SET TO HIT No1
FOLLOWING my glowing endorsement of new pop star Olivia Rodrigo in Bizarre yesterday, the American teenager has literally become an overnight sensation and is now a shoo-in to top the charts here on Friday.
Her self-penned heartbreak single Drivers License has struck a chord with listeners, selling 25,279 copies, while last week’s No1, Little Mix’s Sweet Melody, is at No2 with sales of 15,947.
It also puts her well over 10,000 ahead of Ed Sheeran, who is at No3 with Afterglow, which has sold 14,893.
All that is despite Disney actress Olivia being a virtual unknown in the UK last week.
With a strong music industry team behind her, I’m expecting her to be one of the biggest names in pop by the end of 2021.
AMBER’S NOW AB FAB
LOVE Island winner Amber Gill has learned to love herself again, and I can see why.
She said she lost confidence after putting on weight in lockdown but is now feeling better than ever – although I imagine part of that is because she’s in a sunny country in a bikini.
Alongside this photo on Instagram, she wrote: “Becoming healthy again. Was never about losing my curves or my natural body, it was about how I felt. I didn’t feel right within myself or like my normal self.
“This does not mean losing weight = happiness. It was a by-product of me trying to get better. But I think not being able to be as active as we normally are has a huge part to play in our self esteem/image. Exercise really can change your mindset.”
She shared the snap yesterday but it is believed to have been taken last month in Dubai. Amber will be glad she’s back in the UK now though, as the travel corridor to the United Arab Emirates was removed on Monday night, meaning arrivals back to the UK must now isolate for ten days.
It comes after her fellow Love Island star Gabby Allen said she was planning on staying in Dubai “for the foreseeable” — presumably until restrictions ease in the UK. I hope she’s got plenty of cash, as it looks like she might be there for a while.
1975 in the studio
THE 1975 have scrapped all their 2021 gigs but there is some good news for fans, as the band are working on new music.
After frontman Matty Healy teased collaborations with Beabadoobee and Charli XCX, the group said: “These are incredibly difficult times and until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew, we have decided to cancel our touring so that where possible, everyone can get their tickets refunded sooner rather than later.
“We’re making a new album and look forward to seeing you all at a show as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Lana’s smash hit
LANA Del Rey broke her elbow rollerblading on the set of a music video in California.
The US singer, who this week released her latest single Chemtrails Over The Country Club – the title track of her upcoming seventh album – told Radio 1: “I broke my elbow but there’s nothing you can do about it, you can’t set it.
"It was for the next video, for a song called White Dress.
“We were in Joshua Tree, the desert, and I just wanted to relive this very cool moment in my life where everything was fun and I was rollerblading to work.”
‘I’m so happy’
ADAM Lambert has announced a live-stream show to be beamed from Hollywood’s Roxy Theatre on January 29.
He said of the virtual concert, which fans can buy tickets to online: “Live performance has always been, and will always be, at the heart of what I do, so I’m so happy we’ve found a way for it to persist safely in place of my cancelled Las Vegas residency and European tour.”
NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
VENOM actor Riz Ahmed has revealed he recently got married – though few knew he even had a partner.
Louis Theroux had Riz as a guest on his Grounded podcast and said he didn’t realise he had a wife and asked how long he had been married.
He replied: “Not very long.
"I think it’s the first time I’ve mentioned it in an interview.
"I don’t feel it’s that relevant so I don’t delve into my personal or family life much.”
He also didn’t reveal Mrs Ahmed’s name.
Netflix’s pushing them out
NETFLIX has unveiled its roster of original films for 2021, promising a new movie will be added to the site every week.
Stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Meryl Streep, Zendaya, Jennifer Lawrence and Jake Gyllenhaal have all been involved in new productions which will be available this year.
Halle Berry and Lin-Manuel Miranda will also premiere their directorial debuts.
YUNGBLUD has almost completed a new album, just a month after his latest record topped the charts.
The Strawberry Lipstick singer said he is keen to strike while the iron is hot following the success of Weird! in December.
He has been holed up in the studio crafting the follow-up – his third including 2018 debut 21st Century Liability.
In an Instagram Live last night, Yungblud enthused to fans: “I’m in the studio. We’ve been locked down here. I’ve been so mad-creative! I’ve literally nearly got another album done, which is just f***ing mental. I can’t wait for you to see.”
With no touring taking up artists’ time right now, everyone should be following Yungblud’s example and pumping out new music.
