Steph McGovern was back on Monday afternoon with her Channel 4 programme, Steph’s Packed Lunch. The host welcomed a number of guests onto the show including the likes of Denise Van Outen, Su Pollard and Mark Berry, famously known as Bez from Happy Mondays. However, during a number of segments throughout the show, fans became distracted by the amount of raucous laughter that could be heard. There were a select number of people in the studio, but some viewers seemed to think they could also hear canned laughter.

In one instance, when introducing Bez to the show midway through proceedings, Steph began: “Now, we are in the kitchen because Bez you are taking over the kitchen to do what? What are you making us?”

Bez barely replied to the question before the laughter kicked in. He said: “I am making posh fish fingers butties.

“There is (such) a thing as a posh fish finger butty.”

Steph went on to ask why Bez’s dish was “so posh”.

“I’m using monkfish,” he replied as he pointed to his ingredients. “Which is also known as the poor man’s lobster.”

The loud laughter could be heard again before Bez continued with the demonstration.

He explained: “What you do is you get the monkfish; you slice off some finger-sized pieces.”

The host also asked Bez about his time on Celebrity Masterchef as he coated the fish in egg and a flour mixture.

The “canned” laughter appeared to continue throughout the segment, until the point where the singer served up his dish.

“Hopefully it’ll taste alright,” Bez joked to Denise.

However, some viewers became frustrated with the laughter and took to social media to share their thoughts.

Wizzle said: “What is this crackpot laughing at anything said in the background? Horrific TV #stephspackedlunch.” (sic)

Steve raged: “Anyone else find the crew laughing on #StephsPackedLunch really tiresome?

“I get why they do it but sometimes they are belly laughing every 5 seconds, every time something mildly amusing is said by anyone (presenter or guest).”

Carmel added: “Nope turned off @PackedLunchC4 That manic laughing is horrendous.

“#stephspackedlunch Quit the false studio laughter it’s getting as bad as Sunday Brunch,” James tweeted.

Garry said: “I have a feeling that the audience on #stephspackedlunch will laugh at absolutely anything.”

“I understand a live audience adds atmosphere to #stephspackedlunch but the laughter is too much. It’s spoiling a perfectly enjoyable show,” Phil explained.

Later on in the programme, even Su commented on the amount of laughter in the studio, as she told the studio audience: “You’re better than being at a stand-up gig.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
