Strictly Come Dancing fans react over awkward Shirley Ballas blunder live on-air

Strictly Come Dancing fans were quick to react on Twitter after judge Shirley Ballas made a blunder live on-air at the start of Saturday's show.

As the show opened, Tess Daly called to Shirley, 62, for comment as she announced that the voting lines would be open on the show this week.

Her question was followed by an awkward silence as the camera cut to a confused-looking Shirley who just stared at Tess before the presenter had to repeat the question.

Shirley then said: "Well, hello, how are you all? First of all, I just made it to my seat by the skin of my teeth. Anyway…"

She then went on to implore fans of the show to make sure they were calling in to vote and "do it for us [judges]" as she didn't want to send anyone home.

Her awkward blunder had fans rushing to Twitter to comment, as one wrote: "That was so awkward help #Strictly."

Another tweeted: "Did Shirley forget she was on the telly? #Strictly," whilst someone else joked: "Wake up Shirley #Strictly" with laughing emojis.

A fourth wrote: "Is Shirley ok hun?", while another viewer added: "Well that wasn’t awkward #Strictly."

For the show, Shirley looked fantastic in a hot pink dress with her hair coiffed to perfection, as she lavished compliments on actor Will Mellor, who she said was "easy on the eye", despite his mistakes at the start of the show.

After impressing the judges on last week's first live show, Will's second dance didn't go quite as planned, and he was left disappointed after missing a step.

While Shirley also got emotional after watching Paralympian Ellie Simmonds ' waltz with her partner Nikita Kuzmin, and Ellie herself also teared up after finishing the number.
