Strictly's Shirley Ballas reveals bullying ex husband fat shamed her when she was pregnant and put cockroach in her food
Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has claimed her ex-husband fat-shamed her while she was pregnant.
The professional dancer, 60, opened up about her volatile marriage to former husband Corky in her new autobiography, revealing he even tricked her into once eating a cockroach.
In Behind The Sequins, Shirley alleges that Corky made comments about her weight while she was pregnant with their son Mark.
He told her: "Get too big and I’m out the door. I don’t do fat, Shirley. He started monitoring everything I ate, then he secretly got hold of my doughnut box and hid a large cockroach under the glazing.
"When I ate my next doughnut, the cockroach crackled in my mouth with the legs dangling on the outside.
"This made me vomit straight away. No doubt he thought this ‘creative’ solution was to ‘save me from myself’ and that I would ultimately thank him, but for anybody to want to do this to a pregnant woman is hard to believe."
The former couple met while Shirley was married to fellow dancing champion Sammy Stopford.
After Shirley and Sammy split, she and Corky wed and went on to win a string of international dancing titles – including the US Latin Championships seven times.
The two later split when he left her for former Strictly pro Kristina Rihanoff after he became the dancer's teacher in 2003.
Shirley divorced Corky in 2007 but his relationship with Kristina reportedly fizzled out the following year.
Elsewhere in her book, Shirley reveals how she once hit out fellow Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood for making comments about her appearance.
She says Craig made remarks about her breasts to a room full of people on a book tour during her second series of the BBC show.
Shirley wrote: "Once again, I was propelled back to my toughest days with [ex-husband] Corky, when he would make comments about my appearance: my crooked teeth, my nose, my arse that was too big.
"All those insults just came flying back as I read what Craig had said, apparently in jest."
