Vigil fans all obsessed with the same 'shifty' star of episode 2 – and convinced they spotted BIG clue in close-up shot

VIGIL fans were convinced that they spotted a "shifty" looking star in last night's instalment after a close-up shot.

BBC One viewers were in hysterics during Monday's second episode when the cameras suddenly zoomed in on Detective Longacre's (Rose Leslie) cat.

In the first instalment, viewers were shocked that Line of Duty's Martin Compston's character had been killed off just minutes into the first episode.

This left fans joking that the feline could have been involved with the murder plot after a hilarious editing gaffe.

During episode two, viewers were left on the edge of their seats as they watched DCI Amy Silva (played by Suranne Jones) and Detective Longacre start piecing together the mystery behind Craig Burke's death.

In one scene, Rose's character receives a call from her colleague Porter (Reuben Joseph) as she tries to uncover the murder.

Longacre's cat was sitting on the sofa next to her during the call, the camera then cut to an intense close-up of the furry four-legged animal, leading fans to speculate that the cat's involvement.

One fan wrote: "That cat looks shifty."

A second penned: "Pretty sure that cat is running things."

A third commented: "At this stage, I reckon the cat has something to do with the murders."

A fourth agreed and wrote: "Have decided the cat did it."

Vigil kicked off on Sunday with scenes of a Scottish fishing trawler and her crew being dragged beneath the waves by an unseen force.

This was immediately followed by the shock death of Craig Burke – played by Line Of Duty's Martin Compston – aboard nearby submarine HMS Vigil.

DCI Silva was called in to investigate the cause behind his passing.

During the second episode, viewers were left biting their nails as DCI Silva tried her very best to work out what had happened to Craig.

The detective was met with hostility by most of the male HMS Vigil crew and even ended up locked in a cabin by Lt Commander Mark Prentice.

Meanwhile, back on dry land, DCI Silva's colleague and former girlfriend Kristen, played by Rosie Leslie, found herself beaten up by masked thugs.

She was then seen discovering Burke's girlfriend Jade, who they had hoped would hold some clues to his death, drowned in a freezing river at night.

This came moments after DCI Silva had suddenly worked out that Burke had been poisoned – and that his colleague Adams, who had tried to revive him with mouth-to-mouth, was also feeling ill.

Fans have been left on tenterhooks as a result, wondering who poisoned Burke, whether Adams will also succumb and who is responsible for Jade's death, too.
