Wes Anderson, Paul Verhoeven, Oliver Stone Movies Among Line-Up for Cannes 2021

The movies taking part in the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival include ‘The French Dispatch’, ‘Benedetta’, and ‘JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass.’

AceShowbiz -The full line-up of movies being shown at the annual Cannes Film Festival was unveiled on Thursday (3Jun21).

The festival, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, returns on 6-17 July for its 74th edition – and will screen work by filmmakers, including Wes Anderson‘s star-studded “The French Dispatch” and Paul Verhoeven‘s same-sex nun drama “Benedetta“.

The 2021 competition line-up includes Cannes regulars Nanni Moretti with “Tre piani“, Francois Ozon‘s “Tout s’est bien passe“, and Iranian director Asghar Farhadi returning with his latest “A Hero“, while Cannes favourite Jacques Audiard‘s latest “Paris 13th District” gets a showing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other filmmakers in competition include Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul with “Memoria” starring Tilda Swinton, U.S. indie director Sean Baker for the premiere of his new feature “Red Rocket“, Justin Kurzel with “Nitram“, and French director Bruno Dumont with “France” (aka “On a Clear Morning“) starring Lea Seydoux.

And Mia Hansen-Love‘s French title “Bergman Island” and Nadav Lapid‘s “Ha’berech (Ahed’s Knee)” are also among the films in competition for the 2021 Palme D’Or, the highest prize awarded at the festival.

Oliver Stone documentary “JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass” features in the Cannes Premieres section for established filmmakers, alongside “Jane Par Charlotte“, the directorial debut of acclaimed French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Andrea Arnold‘s “Cow“, while the highlights of Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section include “The Innocents” from director Eskil Vogt, “After Yang” from Kogonada, “Commitment Hasan” from director Hasan Semih Kaplanoglu, and “Lamb” starring Noomi Rapace from first-time Icelandic director Valdimar Johannsson.

Thierry Fremaux, artistic director, and festival president Pierre Lescure unveiled the line-up, which includes opening film “Annette“, a musical starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.

Da 5 Bloods” director Spike Lee will be president of the jury.
