When did Nadiya Hussain win GBBO and what has she done since?

Nadiya Hussain captured our hearts on The Great British Bake Off, and has been a big hit on our screens ever since.

Tonight, her BBC documentary Anxiety and Me will be aired, shedding a light on her life behind the scenes, and speaking to other people who also have the mental health condition.

Nadiya revealed on Loose Women today that her battle with anxiety had stemmed from a bullying incident when she was a child.

She hopes that her show will help to lift the lid on panic disorders and different forms of anxiety, and show that even those as successful as Nadiya can battle demons.

Previously a student and housewife, Nadiya shot to fame on the 2015 series of The Great British Bake Off.

Across the sixth series, she wowed the judges, and became a fan favourite due to her hilarious facial expressions. Her fans became known as the ‘Nadiyators’.

When she came out victorious, a sobbing Nadiya emotionally said: ‘I’m never gonna put boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never gonna say I can’t do it. I’m never gonna say ‘maybe’. I’m never gonna say, ‘I don’t think I can.’ I can and I will.’

The following year, she presented travel show The Chronicles of Nadiya, where travelled to Bangladesh to important places that shaped her culinary journey.

The 34-year-old went on to host a similar show called Nadiya’s British Food Adventure, where she also cooked and ate and travelled, but this time across the UK.

Other shows she’s been part of include Nadiya’s Family Favourites, Time To Eat, and The Big Family Cooking Showdown.

On top of TV work, the baker has been very busy on a number of other projects, including food writing for The Times Magazine, BBC Good Food, The Guardian and the Telegraph.

Her first book, Nadiya’s Kitchen, came out in 2016, and this was followed by another called Nadiya’s British Food Adventure. Then came her children’s book, Bake Me A Story, and her first novel, The Secret Lives of the Amir Sisters.

Nadiya’s homeware collection with BlissHome was also well received when it was released in 2018.

Nadiya: Anxiety and Me will be aired on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday 15 May.
