Where is Emily Bishop and why is she not back in Corrie with Norris?

Is Emily Bishop returning to Coronation Street?

Emily Bishop won’t to be returning to the street alongside Norris and her niece Freda during tonight’s episode.

Many fans have been wondering whether she will be rejoining the street at some point in the near future, but right now there is nothing confirmed.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod said: We’re in talks fairly regularly with Eileen but at the moment there’s no plans for her to return’.

He then went on to confirm that ‘the door’s certainly not closed’ on a potential return for the character.

This means that there is still a chance of seeing Emily return to the the street at some point, but it won’t be any time in the near future.

Why did Emily Bishop leave Coronation Street?

Eileen Derbyshire confirmed in November 2015 that she would be taken an extended break from the soap.

At the time of her exit it was reported that she was expected to only be absent for around six months, but she has now been away from our screens for over three years.

Emily left the street on 1 January 2016 so that she could travel to Peru with her nephew Geoffrey Nugent and become a volunteer.

It was later confirmed that she had returned to the UK but was now living with her niece Freda in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Norris then left the streets in January 2018 to visit Emily in Edinburgh, and he ended up staying longer than originally planned before returning to Coronation Street in tonight’s episode.
