Who's in the cast of The Pact?

THE PACT is a much anticipated crime drama series, set to air on BBC One on Monday, May 17, 2021.

The series, starring Julie Hesmondhalgh and Laura Fraser, surrounds a group of five friends who made a pact following an unexplained death. Here is a closer look at the cast.

Laura Fraser

Scottish actress Laura Fraser is mostly known for her roles in A Knight's Tale, Traces, Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. 

She will portray Anna, one of the colleagues at the brewery who will get caught up in her boss's murder.

Speaking to Express.co.uk about her character, she said: "I really, really felt so sorry for her because she really is caught in such a predicament.

"It's such a huge moral dilemma and when the women on the night of the party, when this devastating thing happens, when they are forced to make a pact she practically begs the women 'please can we tell the police'.

"She really fights to tell the truth but in the end, she agrees to the pact and she thinks the pact is going to keep them safe."

Julie Hesmondhalgh

Best known for her award-winning portrayal of Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street, Julie Hesmondhalgh has also starred in Doctor Who and Broadchurch.

She plays a brewery worker called Nancy.

Speaking about the series, she described it as a "twisty turny thriller that keeps you guessing to the very end" but also a "story about friendship, family, marriage, love and betrayal."

Rakie Ayola

Rakie Ayola, a Welsh actress best known for her roles in Grace, Black Mirror, Noughts + Crosses and Doctor Who. 

She is set to portray DS Holland, who is in charge of the investigation.

Last year she won the Best Female Actor in a Play award at the Black British Theatre Awards for her performance in On Bear Ridge for National Theatre Wales and the Royal Court.

She was nominated for a BAFTA for her role in the BBC One drama Anthony.

She described DS Holland as a "brilliant and quirky detective, someone you wouldn’t expect to be a high-ranking police officer."

Jason Hughes

Jason Hughes is best known for playing the lawyer Warren Jones in the BBC TV series This Life and as Detective Sergeant Ben Jones in Midsomer Murders.

He plays Max Price, Anna's husband, a police officer who is working in the investigation.

He described his character as "a good guy; a very solid, grounded guy, one of those guys that has a natural zest for life."

He added that he is "very passionate about his family and puts that above everything else."

Aneurin Barnard

Aneurin Barnard, is a Welsh actor known for Hunky Dory and The Truth About Emanuel.

He plays Jack Evans, the boss of the brewery whose body will be found in the woods, leading to a murder investigation.

His most recent work includes Barkskins, Dunkirk, The Personal History of David Copperfield, War & Peace and The Goldfinch.

Eiry Thomas

Eiry Thomas is best known for The Bench, Enid a Lucy and Keeping Faith.

She will play Louie Jack's aunt.

Heledd Gwynn

Heledd Gwynn is an actress, best known for 35 Diwrnod and Gwaith/Cartref.

She will portray Cat, another member of the group who works at the brewery.

She won the 30th Ian Charleson Award for her performances as Hedda in Hedda Gabler and Hastings in Richard III.
