Yellowstone airs on Paramount Network and the series follows the Dutton family on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and there is an ongoing feud between Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley). Fans are keen to know why Beth hates Jamie so much and Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.
Why does Beth hate Jamie on Yellowstone?
Yellowstone season three has just aired on the Paramount Network and fans saw Beth get injured after an unknown assassin delivered an explosive device to her office.
Fans are wondering whether she is still alive as her fate was left hanging in the balance.
Some even believe her brother Jamie was behind the attack, as he is known to be in an ongoing battle with his sister.
Just before the attacks on the Dutton family, Jamie told them they should probably not contact him again, and he cut his ties with them.
Looking back across the series there are plenty of reasons as to why Beth hates Jamie so much.
The main reason was explored in season three when fans found out Jamie had driven Beth to have an abortion on a Native American reservation when she was a teenager.
The nurses had told Jamie how they could only sterilize Beth and she would no longer be able to have children. Jamie agreed to proceed with the abortion without telling Beth of the consequences.
When Beth found out the truth, she developed a hatred for Jamie and blamed him for her infertility.
Another reason why Beth lost respect for Jamie was when he attempted to run for the role of Attorney General.
Jamie had been asked by Governor Perry (Wendy Moniz) and Attorney General Stewart (Timothy Carhart) to take part in the election and there had been concerns about a conflict of interest with John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) family connection.
However, Jamie and his father ended up growing further apart and he ended up running against the wishes of his father.
Jamie ended up making his own father look bad during the election campaign in order to win votes. But he had a change of heart at the eleventh hour and withdrew from the election.
Beth has always had a strong relationship with her father, so she was unable to understand why Jamie wanted to make life difficult for him.
In one episode Beth approached Jamie and warned him how she would take away everything he loved in an act of revenge.
She says: “You know, one day, Jamie, as much as it f***ing astonishes me, someone will love you. And you’ll love somebody, and I can’t wait to take that from you.
“Even if I have to kill it with my bare hands, I will take it from you.”
Whenever Beth saw her nephew Tate (Brecken Merrill) she felt a pang of grief as she knew she would never experience loving a child, because of Jamie.
Actor Bentley said: “This is what she wanted, she wanted a kid. Of course, it’s going to crush you and make you hate somebody.”
Fans are waiting to find out whether Jamie will return to his family in season four, and whether he had anything to do with the attacks.
Sharing a theory regarding the end of season three, one fan said on Twitter: “Jamie and his dad did it.
“His brother, sister, and John Dutton are all, thankfully, alive. The young woman who opened the box that exploded in Beth’s office was a single mother with a small child, which, despite her intense hatred for Jamie, Beth and Rip adopt.”
Another fan said: “I have faith Beth is alive because 1. They still haven’t touched on Jamie’s baby and who would even care besides Beth at this point
“2. Can’t do the ‘who shot JD’ story if it’s overshadowed by a ‘who killed Beth Dutton’ story. 3. Her assistant opening the bomb was on purpose.”
Many fans have called the relationship between Beth and Jamie unfixable due to the way he treated her throughout her life.
There is a high chance he will abandon the family for good, especially after he discovered who his real father is.
