Bodies of married couple found floating near boat in South Florida

The bodies of a married couple have been found floating near a boat in a South Florida canal, authorities said.

Archer James Adams III and Paula Adams, both 76, of Boca Raton, were discovered Saturday morning in the waters near the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Palm Beach County, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The cause of death is currently unknown, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

“The FWC … will provide additional details as they become available,” said Susan Neel, the agency’s communication director. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Adams during this difficult time.”

The agency hasn’t said whether foul play is suspected in the case.

The husband and wife had been retired for about 20 years, and were often seen together in the neighborhood with their dog, neighbor Jorge Alvarez told the Sun-Sentinal.

Another neighbor said the couple had a small boat, though it’s unclear whether it was the same one found at the refuge.

The FWC is leading the investigation with help from the Palm Beach County and Broward sheriff’s offices, the paper reported.
