Harley Dilly, 14, found dead ‘behind a wall in vacant home near his house’ after 3-week search – The Sun

THE search for a missing teenager has come to a tragic end after police discovered his body inside a vacant home nearly a month since he vanished without a trace.

Harley Dilly's body was found behind a wall – possibly inside a chimney – of an empty house across the street from his home in Ohio early Tuesday morning, police sources told Fox 8.

The home is apparently used as a vacation lodging, the news station reported.

Police and rescue teams searched the unoccupied house for more than seven hours on Monday night.

Searches planned for nearby landfills Tuesday morning were called off, and an ambulance was spotted leaving the home at 2:30am, cops said.

Detectives were still investigating as authorities combed through 150 acres of land in the area.

Officials found bags of evidence and a sledgehammer at the scene, ABC 10 reported.

Law enforcement officials confirmed with the news station that the "child has been recovered."

What began as a search by local authorities for the 14-year-old quickly expanded into a nationwide effort as multiple state and federal agencies – including the FBI and US Marshalls – joined the hunt.

He was last seen leaving his house on the snowy morning of December 20, but he never made it to school that day.

Surveillance video captured what is believed to be the last known sighting of Harley – he was crossing the street in front of his home in Port Clinton that morning.

He was wearing a thin sweater, sweatpants, and a thin puffer coat, which police said indicates "he wasn't planning on being outside for an extended amount of time."

Detective Ronald Timmons with the Port Clinton Police Department said last Monday the boy was going to meet with "somebody we haven't identified yet."

Harley's cellphone was broken at the time he left his home, Timmons said.

The teen had a "big social media presence" on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and YouTube – but none of those accounts had been active since his disappearance.
