However, after two decades the pair announced that they were separating in July 2021.
At the time of their separation, a spokesperson for the couple said: ''Michael and Sarah have agreed to separate and they are in the process of finalising their divorce.
"They will continue to support their two children and they remain close friends.
"The family politely ask for privacy at this time and will not be providing any further comment."

Michael Gove and Sarah Vine later finalised their divorce in January 2022.
The columnist later confirmed in an interview with Tatler that her ex-husband's political career played a huge role in the breakdown of their relationship.
She said: "Politics creates a toxic environment and puts immense pressure on families and marriages.
''That's really at the heart of why Michael and I are getting divorced."
Vine added: "It's not because we hate each other, it's because I can't look after my family and myself and be a wife of politics."
What positions has Michael Gove worked in?
During his political career, Gove has served in various cabinet positions under numerous Prime Ministers, including Cameron, May, Boris Johnson, and Rishi Sunak.
He has acted as the Secretary of State for Education, the Secretary of State for Justice, and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
As of September 2023, Gove is the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
