Man dead after shooting in Geelong suburb

An armed man is on the run following a fatal shooting in Geelong.

Paramedics were called to a property on Boundary Road in Whittington, a residential suburb of Geelong, following reports a man had been shot at 7.20pm on Monday.

Police confirmed the man died of his injuries.

A crime scene has been set up and the homicide squad is on its way. The offender has not been found.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being established, but "at this early stage it’s believed the parties are known to one another".

"Detectives have a number of follow up inquiries to make in relation to those involved," she said.

"Local police, detectives and specialist police are in the area currently responding to the incident."

Locals reported hearing the police helicopter circling overhead for several hours following the incident as the search for the shooter continued.
